FBI Can Remotely Activate Your Android Phone Mic or Laptop Cameras: Report
Situation has only worsen with this new finding that FBI can remotely activate the microphones and cameras of your smartphones running Google’s Android platform and laptops without users’ consent, reported WSJ.
Report said that FBI has been developing such hacking and surveillance tools for last ten years. Additionally, there are private firms which sell them such tools to spy the users. Without a doubt – as unveiled earlier – FBI has support from technology companies, such as Google, Microsoft, Apple and others.
Moreover, FBI uses spyware tools to record keystrokes or almost any activity on a computer or smartphone.
Report says that there are usually warrants required to undergo such surveillance on suspects, however, it argues that there were instances when FBI had recorded users’ data without any legal authorization.
With plenty of criticism about NSA’s PRISM program, this new hacking and spying practices from US law enforcement agencies are going to further hike the distrust level of technology users.
It merits mentioning here that there are over 900 million users with Android devices.
These revelations also raise serious questions about the privacy of individuals, which is seemingly brutally murdered by American government and agencies and buried hundreds of miles down under the turf.
Third world citizens are in desperate position, who had embraced these emerging technology gadgets and software for simplifying their lives, but ended up only to be watched by the American government.
Our own government, which can question American government about such shameless practices, is busy doing so many other use-less things.

Google Helpouts: A Service That Will Give You Paid Online Lessons
Google has just launched a new service to help you around various aspects of daily life with a little help from the experts. The new product called “Helpouts” is Google’s take on How Stuff Works and Wikihow, except that Helpouts uses live video calls so that you interact with teachers live.
Of course, Wikihow is maintained and run by a wide community of people who, although talented, aren’t professionals and as a result, is free. Helpouts is not.
A live session on Helpouts starts from $1 and can get expensive quickly. A few things are free as well. Billing is done on flexible terms. That’s actually not too bad either especially since most professionals aren’t into humanitarian and charity work either so this was expected.
A number of people and organizations have already joined the service including Rosetta Stone and Kip McGrath. Right now, there are seven categories for you browse and quite a limited number of users but many more are on the way.
Here are categories where help is offered:
- Art & Music
- Computers & Electronics
- Cooking
- Education & Careers
- Fashion & Beauty
- Fitness & Nutrition
- Health
- Home & Garden
This idea isn’t entirely new especially since free online music lessons, tuitions and the like are all over YouTube now but who knows, 20 years onwards, we might be using services like Helpouts everyday.
The service uses Google Wallet for payments so you can’t go and sit down for a paid section just yet (unless you’re in the US). Free ones can be tried though and if you’re confident enough to take the plunge, do let us know how it went.
Bendable Display that Will Turn Your Entire Phone into a Screen
Until now, the only serious effort in making curved display smartphones has came fromLG and Samsung and that too, without any offense, looks only half-serious. The implementation is off the mark and the products themself don’t look too comfortable for daily usage.
Now though, something has arrived which can make even the most indifferent of people pay attention: the world’s most bendable mobile display. Its maker, SEL (Semiconductor Energy Laboratory), claims that it can bend to a record-shattering 4mm diameter and revealed the technology at the FPD 2013 show in Japan.
SEL is also the same company which made IGZO displays a reality.
The prototype unit was a 5.4″ mobile display with pixel density of 302ppi. The new display is more reliable and designable than a conventional OLED as it uses CAAC oxide semiconductors which are crystalline and not amorphous. As a result, these displays can be rolled towards the sides and at the top of a smartphone, or even at the back – if required. Still, they look just as good as an OLED screen.
Another thing which is increased is durability. Since the crystals are continuously aligned, they don’t get bothered much when they’re bent.
SEL also showcased a 3.4″ display with pixel density of 326ppi, which is again quite a feat. The bendable display also comes with a bendable Li-ion battery which has been tested as much as 10,000 times. A 13.5″ bendable OLED display with 4K resolution for televisions was also shown off.
Technology like this is worthy of being implemented on our mobile devices. We really hope to see it soon on them.
